The City of Cambridge recognizes that climate change will have  significant impacts on our community and on the world and has committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions in its own operations and working with the entire community on reducing their emissions.

In 1999, Cambridge joined Cities for Climate Protection (CCP). This campaign, sponsored by ICLEI–Local Governments for Sustainability, helps cities create a  greenhouse gas emissions inventory and  set targets and strategies to reduce these emissions based on  a comprehensive and well-defined plan.

Cambridge’s original  climate protection plan ran through 2010 and resulted in significant actions.   Action on climate change continues while new goals and actions are being developed.
