Step 1: Apply for Fuel Assistance

In order to receive a free weatherization assessment you must first qualify and apply for fuel assistance. Fuel Assistance is a government program which helps low-income families pay their heating bills during the winter season.

Low-income individuals and families can check to see if they qualify and then apply through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). Cambridge residents can also apply by calling 617-349-6252.

The amount of fuel assistance benefits you will get depends on your income, your housing status, and your heating costs. You can get between $55 and up to $1,090 for heating bills during the winter!

Step 2: Receive a FREE Weatherization Assessment

If your household is eligible for Fuel Assistance you can request a FREE home weatherization assessment.

An Energy Specialist will visit your home to perform your scheduled assessment and will recommend FREE weatherization services like insulation for your attic and walls, sealing cracks, wrapping your water heater and pipes, and other energy-saving improvements.

Some homes may also qualify for heating system repair and replacement services.

Step 3: Installation

A selected contractor installs energy efficiency measures recommended by the assessment, usually within 60 days.

Step 4: Enjoy Savings & Comfort!

You enjoy the savings and the comfort, knowing that you have invested in measures that will benefit you and the planet for a long time to come.
