Cambridge residents living in a single-family home, or an apartment or condo building with 1-4 units, are eligible for either of two NO COST home energy assessments through MassSave:

NO COST Next Step Living Energy Assessment

Next Step Living is a home performance contractor who will be your guide and resource through the entire Mass Save process. They will schedule and perform not only your energy assessment, but also the weatherization recommendations that you choose for your home. When you sign up for a NO COST Next Step Living assessment, you will be assigned an Account Manager who will be your dedicated point of contact and on-call resource throughout the entire Mass Save process.

All services and measures provided through the Mass Save program are offered for free or at standardized pricing, so these benefits come at no extra cost to you. All work scopes are reviewed and approved by the Mass Save program’s oversight body and all work is quality assured after it is completed, so you can be sure that your project is correctly scoped and implemented to the highest standards.

NO COST MassSave Basic Energy Assessment

For residential Eversource customers intending to invest in energy efficiency upgrades to their 1-4 family home, Mass Save provides on-site Home Energy Assessments by trained Energy Specialists to evaluate existing conditions and make recommendations specific to your home.

The assessment focuses on weatherization (insulation & air leakage), mechanical systems (air conditioning, heating & hot water), major appliances and lighting to identify cost effective energy efficiency opportunities. Consequently, access to all areas of the building will be required on the day of your basement-to-attic assessment.

A typical assessment takes between 1½ to 2 hours to complete but depends on the specific home. All household decision makers should plan to participate in the assessment in order to gain an understanding of the recommended energy efficiency opportunities, their impact and the installation process necessary to implement the improvements. We also ask for you to prepare a year’s worth of utility information (electric, gas, oil, propane, etc.)

At the end of your home’s Energy Assessment your Energy Specialist will provide you with information on any available utility incentives/rebates or available financing offers for the recommended energy efficiency improvements and explain the next steps necessary to implement the recommendations.
